Background
AAU Library was established with the birth of the University at its Al-Ain main campus in 2005. With only one librarian during its early establishment, the Library's staff strength now comprises of 3 staff, including a director of library.
Its total collection of over 8000 items comprises of books, journals, audio-visuals, and electronic materials in both English and Arabic to support electronic library (e-library). In addition to providing access to the internet, the library also subscribes to online databases and electronic journals, and it uses the Library of Congress Subject Headings and the Library of Congress Classification Scheme to organize collections.
Library operations are computerized using an integrated library automation system, HORIZON. The system allows for speedy and convenient access to the library's catalogue both from within the library and remotely through the Internet.
The Main Library building provides a spacious and conducive study environment with multimedia room. It has a seating capacity for 98 users. In addition, the Library also has 12 workstations for the Internet use and database searches.
