About the College
The College of Education (COE) is one of the first three colleges that were established at Al-Ain University of Science and Technology in the year 2005. The College of Education is dedicated to teaching and scientific research in teaching and learning, university and community service, as well as communicating with other educational institutions locally, regionally, and internationally.
Currently, the COE offers three programs; two of which at the undergraduate level; namely English Language Teacher Education and Information Technology Teacher Education programs. The two programs are characterized by covering academic, educational, and professional aspects. The third program is a post-graduate one called Professional Diploma in Teaching. The diploma program is for preparing students to teach at the preparatory and secondary school levels in the UAE and abroad. It admits students who have undergraduate degrees in one of academic specializations such as Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, English Language, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology, and Social Studies. The period of study in the Professional Diploma in Teaching is one year in which all program courses are studied in the first semester. As an integral part in either of the undergraduate or diploma programs, student teachers spend the last semester practicing teaching in one of the area schools of the UAE.
To achieve its goals, the COE is having faculty members of high caliber, experience, and proficiency in different specializations which is congruent with accreditation standards of the ministry of higher education in the UAE. The College also emphasizes the use of technology and active learning in its academic and applied activities.
The COE applied lately to Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) in order to obtain accreditation for two more programs, that is, Arabic and Islamic Field Teacher Education and the other Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages). On the other hand, the COE is planning to offer other undergraduate and post-graduate programs in order to be a distinguished center in its educational and psychological services.
